The role of the king was very important in the government of Great Zimbabwe. The King was the Head of State and held significant power over his subjects. He supervised trade, exacted tribute from his subjects, and was the commander in Chief of the army. Additionally, he was the head of the judiciary, meaning that he tried and judged all cases that were brought to him. The rulers of Great Zimbabwe were also important religious leaders who conducted all religious ceremonies within the Kingdom. Therefore, it can be concluded that the king played a central role in both political and religious affairs in Great Zimbabwe.
